Winter has a way of quietly slowing people down
You move less without meaning to. Mornings feel stiff, joints feel creaky, and between icy roads and dark evenings, the couch starts winning more often than the barbell.
The Ice Breaker Challenge is a six-week strength and physique program designed to change that pattern on purpose. Instead of waiting for spring, you use the heart of winter to build strength, move better, and set the foundation for how you want to look and feel when the snow finally melts.
Why Winter Is a Great Time to Start Strength Training

Cold weather often leaves the body feeling stiff and sluggish.
You sit more, move less, and your circulation slows. Muscles feel tight, joints feel rusty, and getting started in the morning takes more effort than it should.
Strength training sends a different signal to your body.
When you lift, circulation increases and blood vessels relax, allowing more blood to reach the muscles and connective tissues that support your joints. That movement helps deliver oxygen and nutrients, clear metabolic waste, and warm tissues so they move better.
Over time, this regular, intentional movement can reduce stiffness, improve joint support, and help your body feel more comfortable and capable throughout the winter.
This Isn’t About Grinding Yourself into the Ground

It’s about intelligent, consistent training that creates the conditions for your body to change, protects your joints, and builds muscle that serves you long term.
What You Get in the Ice Breaker Challenge
Two in-person strength sessions each week.
You and I meet twice a week for focused lifting sessions that:
Use compound movements to train multiple muscle groups
Include accessory work to address weaknesses
Start with a proper warm-up so your joints, tendons, and muscles feel ready to rock and roll.
One written training day on your own.
You will also receive guidance through a third training day each week via the TrueCoach app. Every exercise is clearly laid out, complete with demo videos, sets, reps, and notes. You can also log your workouts directly in the app, allowing you to track progress week by week.
Simple, supportive nutrition coaching. You receive a basic nutrition framework that fits real winter life in Marquette:
Clear macronutrient targets
Ideas for warm, repeatable meals that actually sound good in January
Pointers for what to eat before and after training so you feel stronger in your sessions and recover better
Before-and-after check-ins. At the start and end of the six weeks,
You will:
Test working sets, or rep ranges on key lifts, adjusted to your level
Take simple measurements or “how clothes fit” notes to track physique changes if you want.
Check in on stiffness, sleep, and overall energy
